War and Natural Gas: The Israeli Invasion and Gaza's Offshore Gas Fields
|
| |
The military invasion of the Gaza Strip by Israeli Forces bears a direct relation to the control and ownership of strategic offshore gas reserves. [...]
The BG Group drilled two wells in 2000: Gaza Marine-1 and Gaza Marine-2. Reserves are estimated by British Gas to be of the order of 1.4 trillion cubic feet, valued at approximately 4 billion dollars. These are the figures made public by British Gas. The size of Palestine's gas reserves could be much larger. (Michel Chossudovsky - globalresearch.ca)

Two weeks before 11 containers of highly active nuclear waste fused in glass are due to be delivered to Gorleben, police have published in the local newspaper a general directive about time and location limits on assembly rights from 9 to 18 November in the Gorleben area.
The announcement was buried between real estate and dating advertisements and gave no reasons for the bans.

Collapsing the European security architecture
|
| |
At the same time, we see a concrete opportunity in using this continued narrowing of the freedom of movement as a chance to build new alliances that will bring about broad social debates and unexpected interventions. A conjunction of classical antimilitarism, antirepression, and migration politics is a clear option.

»I assume that once the next strike is on our workmates will form discussion groups in order to debate about the 'here and now'. This is how it was during the last strike, colleagues debated a lot and could not stop talking. There wasn't a moment when you were alone with your thoughts for more than five minutes.«

Colombia: Rosy picture belies stark problems

The Colombian military, which receives hundreds of millions of dollars annually in U.S. aid, gives special cause for concern. There have been scores of allegations, described as credible by the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights and local authorities, that the Army"s 4th Brigade has executed civilians and dressed the corpses as guerrillas so that they could record them as killed in combat.
