In autumn 2004, the Austrian student council ÖH wittnessed a sudden reform on student representation. Direct elections on the federal level were abolished, funds and compentences were cut. This will weaken the groups currently dominating the federal student council (mostly affiliated with the social democrats and the greens) and strengthen conservative student groups (affiliated with the ruling ÖVP).
About 1300 students joined the demonstration against the new legislation in Vienna. When the rally split in two, a cat-and-mouse game with the police starts. However, all attempts to storm the ÖVP's headquarter or a parlament's back door have failed this time...
