Free spaces and independent locations for progressive cultural and political initiatives and events have never been quite widespread in Vienna. Today, it's not just the 'one and only' (well, almost...) Viennese squat named EKH that is resisting it's close-down. Along with other endagered initiatives such as TÜWI (an autonomous students' club), Public Netbase (a new media initiative) and Women´s Cafe (womens' café), they got together to organize an action week and to raise public attention for their situation. The result: four days of demonstrations, events, activism and discussions held under the motto 'closing down days'. Our report covers the opening manifestation in front of Volkstheater (Peoples' Theater).
