Shuma Sarkar has worked in the garment industry since she was just 13, when she moved to Dhaka with her mother to look for work. She was widowed and left with two children when her husband was killed in a factory fire. She was paid no compensation. Unable to provide for both her children from here meagre salary her youngest child is now living with her family.
