THE RETURN OF THE SWEARING-IN CEREMONY

As the Social Democrats (SPÖ) were elected the strongest faction in parliament, it was not a big surprise that party leader Alfred Gusenbauer was mandated to form a government. Finally, his team agreed to enter into a coalition with the conservative People's party. Many voters of the Social Democrats cannot believe the outcome of the negotiations. Most election pledges were abandoned, while Gusenbauer realised his childhood dream to become chancellor. The ceremony where he and his ministers are sworn in reflects the mood of many disappointed individuals, comprising also the Socialist Youth, the youth organisation close to the the SPÖ.
