The National Council is expected to adopt the bill on the amendment of the asylum and alien law drafted on behalf of the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Ms. Fekter, on November 21, 2009. Lightly recognizable, this leads to another tightening of the law. Detention pending deportation shall be extended and proceedings shall be shortened, thus leading to reduced possibilities for asylum seekers to file follow-up applications (when a first application for asylum has been rejected and circumstances have changed later on).
