On June 28, 1969, the New York Police Department raided the gay and lesbian bar "Stonewall Inn" in Christopher Street, Greenwich Village, NYC. A series of violent conflic followed, solidly supported by residents of the neighborhood. The incident is considered to be the beginning of the modern struggle of gays, lesbians and transgender for respect and equal rights. The parades on Christopher Street Day, taking place in countless cities worldwide, are a spectacular manifestation of gay and lesbian self-confidence.
In Vienna, the "Regenbogenparade" (rainbow parade) took place for the 10th. time (only), and again the organizers try a tightrope walk between fun commerce and political demands. For the first time, a prominent producer of beauty products took the role of the main sponsor, presenting their product line "for men". On the other hand, sympathizers of the threatened (former) squat Ernst Kirchweger Haus engaged in a paint bomb battle, and the untraslatable "Trachtenfaekalisten Oberdoebling" vented their anger with ribald talk...
